American Christian thought:
Separation
of Church and State
Christianity bases life on the duality of
"Give unto Caesar
what is Caesar’s,
but
Give onto God what is God’s."
At America’s
founding and for the next 120 years or so,

Our marriages
were defined at the church alter.

Our children
were taught, as a minimum, by Sunday school teachers, if not full
time in parochial schools for Catholics then or Baptists now, or
taught by a truly God-fearing teacher hired by your small town on
the prairie.

Many
continued to Christian-ran colleges and universities (many now in name
only), such as Harvard, Yale, Baylor or Notre Dame.
-
Our hospitals
were ran by churches. (Yes, now in name only,) they may still be
called Methodist hospital, Presbyterian hospital, or St. Jude
hospital, but hospitals were often church charities for the sick who could not work
-
Our charities
were almost universally ran by churches, such as the Salvation Army, St Jude, many
outreach charities and children's’ charities, homeless shelters,
food banks, health services and the like.

We were
buried in the Church cemetery.
-
Because the
Church was so central to our lives and provided those services using
the collections we freely donated, or looking to our individual State to take up the
remaining services, there were no federal income tax, and in a few
States like Texas, there is still no State income tax, so that many
ordinary individuals never had to face a government bureaucrat
demanding forced contributions to the government (i.e. taxes)
Soviet
Union thought:
the
State is the Church
The Soviet Union,
ran by Jewish commissars was ran as a collective. Meaning, they
collected everything you had and they decided what you could collect
back.
There was no church,
so every service was ran by the State.

Church
equals State
Muslims have Sharia law, Judaism has Halakha law (halacha) based on the Torah and the Talmud.
Halacha laws are decided in Jewish Beth Din (or Beit Din) courts.
Halacha comes with 613 mitzvot commandments taken straight out of Jewish religious texts.
Indeed, today's
Israel is not a full Halakha-ran theocratic country, besides the best
intentions of Orthodox Jews to impose Halakha law.
Orthodox
Jews believe the only ones allowed to call themselves citizens of
Israel are Jews. The Arabs living there now are merely an
inconvenience.
The thing to know is that King David and King Solomon up to Netanyahu today are as much a part of Judaism as a rabbi.

list compiled by Rambam in the Mishneh Torah, but
I have consulted other sources as well. As I said in the page on
halakhah, Rambam's list is probably the most
widely accepted list, but it is not the only one. The order is my own, as are
the explanations of how some rules are derived from some biblical passages.
For each mitzvah, I have provided a citation to the biblical passage or
passages from which it is derived, based primarily on Rambam. For commandments
that can be observed today, I have also provided citations to the Chafetz
Chayim's
Concise
Book of Mitzvot (CCA refers to affirmative commandments; CCN refers to
negative commandments; CCI refers to commandments that only apply in
Israel). Commandments that cannot be observed
today primarily relate to the Temple, its
sacrifices and services (because the Temple
does not exist) and criminal procedures (because the theocratic state of Israel
does not exist).
